Today the great purge began with the state of Washington telling the downtown dwellers of the Alaska Way Viaduct in no uncertain terms: "Move along now. You'll have to move along." The homeless are under siege because tunnel replacement construction is heading a few blocks north to Yesler Way -- and no disheveled, foul-smelling or cardboard-covered drunk is going to stand in the way of that, by golly.
