Today's Comment of the Day winner offers a bit of advice for potential job seekers and for people who give a crap what politicians do during their day-to-day.
The comment comes in response to Caleb Hannan's post about Congressman Rick Larsen's decision to fire a trio of his staffers who liked to post about their on-the-job drinking/YouTube-watching exploits on Twitter.
To that NoShoes writes this somewhat off-topic, but still valid missive:
If you want to respect your local politicians never go to work for them.
Ive known people that have worked closely with Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell and our looking for a federal appointment Governor, and they all say the same thing. They are completely out of touch with how the average person goes about their day. They delegate 95% of their assigned tasks to staffers and don't read any of the bills they vote on.
The only thing that they keep focused on a day-to-day basis are fund raisers for their campaign. That is their main focus, seriously. They are either thanking someone for giving them money or asking someone else for more money all with the promise that you don't have to pay taxes as long as they keep on giving us money.
Most would be frightened that these were the people representing us. If their staffs ever quit wholesale you would find these politicians unable to perform simple tasks like grocery shopping or scheduling a flight by themselves. You would find them curled up in the fetal position in their office that resembled something out of the Lord of the Flies in less than a week.
