UPDATE: Good news! The Toledo family's stolen puppy has been returned! The dog was apparently dropped off at a local animal shelter. The bad news: Diana Toledo lost the race for King County Council by a landslide to incumbent Joe McDermott. More at West Seattle Blog.
King County Council District 8 candidate Diana Toledo's house was ransacked in the burglary, her things strewn everywhere. But curiously there was only one item missing from her house--a living, breathing item.
Thieves apparently took Toldedo's seven-week-old pit bull puppy "Jewel."
Diana Toledo says her front door was kicked in and several rooms ransacked around midnight Sunday, but the only thing that was stolen was her 7-week-old puppy she had been fostering.
The puppy is a brown pit-bull who answers by the name of "Jewel".
Little additional information is available yet. We've got a call in to Ms. Toldeo for more details.
Have you seen Jewel?
UPDATE: Ms. Toledo just called in. Besides sending the photo of Jewel to the left, she tells me that the house that was burglarized is owned by her, but is rented by her brother, his wife and their children. One of Toledo's nieces had been raising the tiny puppy by hand and is "devastated" by the loss.
"What was most interesting was that nothing else was taken," Toledo says. "Electronics, TVs, nothing else was touched. This was clearly to do with the puppy. And today's election day! The return of Jewel would be an even bigger victory for the Toledo camp though."
Lastly, Toledo says that her family has placed an open dog crate at the end of their driveway and that whoever has Jewel can return her "no questions asked."
Robert Pregulman, editor of the Seattle Dog Spot blog, meanwhile, worries that because the dog (a pit bull) was the only thing taken it may be being used for dog fighting purposes.
