Tony Schiro, Tough-as-Nails 70-Year-Old, Trampled by Horse, Expected to Recover

Tony Schiro, a 70-year-old racing buff, was trampled by a horse this weekend at Emerald Downs when two fillies got loose and ran amok. His injuries reportedly included "a broken right hip, a broken femur, 10 broken ribs on his right side, a collapsed lung, damage to his eye socket that required stitches, and a horseshoe impression on the right side of his face."

He's also apparently going to fully recover and be (relatively) OK.

Wow.

KOMO News:

The man, horse owner Tony Schiro, was outside the stable area Saturday afternoon when two runaway horses came galloping straight toward him.

He was able to dodge the first horse, but the second one slammed into him at full force.

Schiro suffered extensive injuries, including a broken right hip, a broken femur, 10 broken ribs on his right side, a collapsed lung, damage to his eye socket that required stitches, and a horseshoe impression on the right side of his face.

He is scheduled to undergo hip surgery Sunday night, say family and friends.

. . . [He] is expected to pull through . . .

One more proof that our grandfather's generation was made of tougher stuff than our own.
