Some day soon a new Target store will open in downtown Seattle. Folks who would like to work at this store will be forced to sit through a whole bunch of training videos before they start. But the go-getters out there can impress their future employers by prewashing their brains with this leaked copy of one of the company's most important vids--the one that shows how important it is that they never, ever, under any circumstance, join a union.
Gawker posted the video today. It's not embeddable, so you'll have to go to their page to see it.
But the basic message is this:
Unions will only take employees' money and will deliver nothing on their behalf.
Unions haven't accomplished anything in decades.
Employees will be treated better and be given more hours and better pay if they don't join a union.
Union members who picket outside Target stores are jerks. Just ignore them.
Target knows how best to make sure employees are treated fairly; unions don't.
If Target employees unionized, people would be laid off en masse.
The video, of course, is wildly inaccurate in terms of what union representation means. And its archaic educational tone and cheesy production make it laughable at best.
But its interesting to see with just how much contempt one of America's biggest companies views the thought of its employees potentially banding together to demand better pay and benefits.
