John McGee, Idaho State Senator, Arrested for Drunken Car Theft

Idaho state Senator and former "Republican Legislator of the Year" John McGee was found wandering around an apparently stolen truck that he'd gotten stuck in a random guy's driveway on Sunday. McGee reportedly told the man whose house he was found near that he was "looking for the promised land."

If the "promised land" happens to be an Ada County Jail cell, then the Senator found what he was looking for.

Boise police say that McGee spent his Father's Day boozing at a golf course, then decided to walk several miles barefoot ('cause why not?).

At some point, the belligerent politician allegedly came across a Ford Excursion SUV with a large 20-foot travel trailer hitched on the back, with the doors unlocked and the keys left inside. So naturally the Senator decided to take it for a spin.

He supposedly drove the truck and trailer into a neighborhood, then attempted to turn it around (a feat difficult even while sober) and got it jackknifed and stuck in someone's driveway.

That someone, Joe Carleton, tells KTVB that he woke up to his kids screaming that there was some maniac running around their front lawn.

"[McGee] said he was looking for the promised land," Carleton said. "He didn't know where he was at. He was dazed and confused. He was in another world."

McGee was apparently found passed out in the stolen truck with a blood-alcohol content of .15 (the state limit is .08).

Carleton also said that the politician had cuts all over him, and looked like he'd "been in a wrestling match."

McGee was taken to jail.

Meanwhile, the state Senator's website continues to trumpet his accomplishments, which include serving on the Health and Welfare Committee, being the Chairman of the Regional Substance Abuse Authority Legislative Committee, and being the 2009 Transportation Leader of the Year.
