Episodes of To Catch a Predator notwithstanding, it's rare that police officers catch pedophiles quite literally with their pants down. But that's what Bellevue police say they did late last month when they walked up to a parked Honda Civic and found former Tillicum Middle School teacher Matthew J. Jones and a 16-year-old former student naked in the back seat.

Jones has now been charged with child rape, sexual misconduct, and child molestation, as the P-I reports today.

It turns out that Jones' relationship with the student had allegedly been going on for more than nine months, well before she turned 16.

Prosecutors say that the sex encounters generally followed a similar pattern: Jones would meet the teen at Lattawood Park in Bellevue, then they would retire to the intimate confines of his Honda Civic.

But perhaps thinking that Washington's age-of-consent law applied to him (it didn't, because he was a teacher at the girl's school), the alleged victim claims that she and Jones waited to have sex until she was 16.

Now Jones is facing up to five years in prison and a lifetime on the sex offenders' database.

Jones' personal blog ("Matt Jones' Random Acts of Verbiage") has been taken down since his arrest.

But cached screenshots of the page show him as very proud of his position as a middle-school teacher.

According to the blog, he's a graduate of Gig Harbor High School and the University of Washington. He also writes that he's a "pretty devout Christian," and was about to leave for Vancouver to pursue an advanced degree in religious studies.

But still, nothing compares to his day job, as he writes:

There is nothing more rewarding than working with middle schoolers. :)
