Some folks come up with ideas like changing the state song to a sports-themed hip-hop jam while they're out drinking. They talk about how they're totally gonna do it, man! Then they wake up hungover and amnesiac about the entire affair. Kris "The Sonics Guy" Brannon doesn't just talk about ideas like that, he files initiatives with the secretary of state to have it done. It has zero chance of happening, of course. But come on! It's the Sonics guy!
The P-Ireports that Brannon will file an initiative today seeking to have Washington's current official state song, "Washington My Home" by the venerable Helen Davis, changed to Seattle rapper and posterior enthusiast Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Not in Our House."
Brannon, with his fuzzy 'fro and mutton chops, has lurked at practically every public event in Tacoma and plenty in Seattle since before the Sonics even left in 2008. He holds a "Save Our Sonics" sign. He looks friendly. It's inspiring sometimes. It's horribly depressing at other times.
Anyhow, here's "Washington My Home." Try not to dance.
