It's always fun to see how long someone with a big announcement to make can hold out before they blast out the news on Facebook and Twitter. For Seahawks Secondary Coach and almost-UCLA Defensive Coordinator Rocky Seto, that amount of time was maybe a few hours. And unfortunately, while a lot of folks were showering him with congratulations for landing the gig, a lot more folks were raising hell about his hiring. Looks like the hell-raisers won.
As Sports by Brooks reports, the reason that UCLA rescinded its offer for Seto to become the Bruins' new defensive coordinator stemmed directly from backlash created when Seto boasted of his job offer on social-media sites and angry UCLA fans revolted.
To be clear, that anger had nothing to do with how the story of Seto's hire was disseminated in the media. Nor did it relate to Seto once being affiliated--as an assistant coach--at UCLA rival USC.
It had everything to do with the common knowledge that Seto, who previously served as defensive coordinator under Pete Carroll at USC, held that position in name only. It was Carroll who ran the defense when Seto was credited with being USC's DC.
