One could almost taste the happiness in the air around Washington state and much of the nation yesterday after news was announced that Boeing had won a $35 billion contact to build 179 refueling tankers for the U.S. military. Everyone was thrilled! Everyone, that is, except a whole bunch of conservatives. They think it's all just part of Obama's dictatorial/socialist takeover of America (a takeover that somehow involves American big business).
"I'm disappointed but not surprised," Shelby said. "Only Chicago politics could tip the scales in favor of Boeing's inferior plane. EADS clearly offers the more capable aircraft. If this decision stands, our warfighters will not get the superior equipment they deserve."
Shelby and Alabama gets somewhat of a pass because EADS has major operations in the state. But still. Chicago politics?
Other sites went further like conservative blog Spectator, where author Quin Hillyer writes:
Boeing gets the tanker contract. I smell a rat. A crooked rat. Even Boeing thought it was going to lose. EADS under-bid it, and its plane was bigger and could do more. But Boeing is headquartered in Obama's Chicagoland, and Defense Secretary Gates will retire to his Seattle-area home--Seattle being the main historic base of Boeing and still the site of the largest portion of its jobs, including the jobs for the tanker project. It's all so very convenient . . .
And on the Twitterscape, conservative spooks were positively livid.
--WHO IS SURPRISED BY THIS???
Boeing in Chicago-
OBAMA is Prez
and the little weasel RAHM is da mayor!
I won't even get into the comment sections on Southern newspapers and conservative blogs, but rest assured the words "socialist," "Chicago politics," "sneaky," and some variation of "Obama hates America" all come up quite frequently.
Nothing worse than an American company winning a contract from the American military, eh? Reagan must be rolling over in his grave.
