Amanda Knox Movie Set to Air Tonight in Front of Millions of Disapproving Viewers

Millions of people already hate the new Amanda Knox movie. Most of them, however, will still be watching it when it airs tonight.

The made-for-TV film, Amanda Knox: Murder in Trial in Italy, stars Heroes heroine Hayden Panettiere, and judging from the trailer, it's a shamelessly sensationalized version of disputed facts and hearsay.

Lifetime, the network behind the film, actually agreed to cut one of the film's more controversial scenes, in which Knox's character brutally stabs victim Meredith Kercher.

Knox's family has threatened to sue the network for releasing the movie while their daughter is still waist-deep in an appeals trial in which questionable DNA evidence is being reviewed and new testimony expected.

But given the worldwide media attention the movie has received, there seems little doubt that the show's ratings will be through the roof. Thus, Lifetime, a network with a carefully maintained audience almost strictly of women and gay folks, will get to break through to the world of male/straight viewers.

In short, even if the network is successfully sued by Knox's family (which is unlikely), they'll likely be able to afford it easily--off the profits made on their crappy movie.
