UPDATE: The shooter has now been identified as 31-year-old Anthony Martinez. Also, the girl who was also killed is apparently a 13-year-old abductee from Clearfield, Utah, who'd been living with Martinez. KIRO has more, and Salt Lake City's Deseret News has a mug shot of Martinez, as seen after the jump.

Two people are dead and two Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies are injured after a confrontation outside a Walmart turned into a shootout on Sunday.

UPDATE: Here's a mugshot of Martinez.

As The Seattle Times reports, witnesses at the Port Orchard Walmart on Bethel Road Southeast describe deputies interviewing a heavyset man in the parking lot before he took off running toward a nearby wooded area.

In mid-stride, the witnesses (and police) say the man began firing a gun over his shoulder without looking.

Bullets struck two deputies--one in the arm, another in the torso. They are reportedly in "satisfactory" condition and their names have yet to be released.

In the seconds after the suspect fired his gun, deputies fired back, killing the man as well as a girl who apparently ran toward where he was. Police believe the two were together, though their relationship is unknown.

ST:

The [witness] said two male deputies fell to the ground as the gunman staggered away and collapsed on the pavement. A young woman then ran into the chaotic scene toward the gunman, falling near him after being shot . . .

The incident began after a 911 call came in reporting a man with a gun near the store's outside smoking area. It was after deputies had contacted the man and were attempting to escort him away when he starting running and shooting.

Where the girl who was later killed was during all this, and whether she also had a gun, are unknown. Both are details we'll be watching closely.
