Last week, we told you about the Portland-based charity Child Foundation and the federal charges that accuse its founder and two other prominent Iranian-American citizens of illegally funneling millions of dollars to Iran in violation of the U.S. trade embargo. Yesterday, the founder, Mehrdad Yasrebi, pleaded guilty to those charges in U.S. District Court.

Via the AP:

Federal prosecutors said today that 53-year-old Mehrdad Yasrebi founded the tax-exempt charity Child Foundation in 1994 and served as its chief executive until his resignation last year.

Yasrebi and the charity were charged with conspiring with Ahmad Iranshahi and a Texas couple, Dr. Hossein Lahiji and Najmeh Vahid, who face separate charges.

Yasrebi and the Child Foundation were accused of conspiring to defraud the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the federal agency enforcing the Iranian embargo.

Yasrebi's co-defendants, the husband and wife duo of Lahiji and Vahid, are still awaiting trial.
