Before the debut of his talk show last night on TBS, Conan O'Brien polled his audience to see who they wanted him to bring on as his first guest. The poll was, of course, a joke, because there was no way in hell Pope Benedict was ever going to make it on basic cable. But it was a joke that happened to be very beneficial to one Washington woman.
As Conan explained to the audience, the winner of the "deliberately rigged" poll was Arlene Wagner, curator of the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum. (Mission statement: "To foster and encourage the interest of the general public of the importance of nuts in the diets of humans throughout history and in the evolution of the nutcracker.") A fittingly idiosyncratic guest for an amusingly idiosyncratic host.
A call to the museum to see what effect, if any, Wagner's Conan appearance had on nut-busting interest level went unanswered today. Possibly because she's still basking in the glow of her late-night TV debut. Or possibly because the museum is only open for three hours a day, two days a week. Either way, check out Wagner's brief appearance in the video below.
