No Turkey for Charles Garcia: Former Seattle U Star Due Back Home After False Start Abroad

He was raw, inconsistent, and prone to stupid fouls and maddening turnovers, but it's no stretch to say that, in his one year at Seattle University, SW cover boy Charles Garcia put the Redhawk program back on college basketball's map after a decades-long hiatus. Hyped early on as a potential first-rounder, Garcia torched his final year of amateur eligibility only to go undrafted in June, and then couldn't stick with an NBA team. So he inked a deal with a pro team in Turkey, and packed his bags.

But hopefully he didn't unpack: According to his agent, Mike Harrison, Garcia is in the process of voiding his contract after just two games with Oyak Renault, where he averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game.

"I expect him to be out of there within the next week," says Harrison. "They're looking for more of a post guy, a banger. I think he's done playing there, it's just a matter of working things out contractually."

Whether Garcia will find a market that's (Istan)bullish on his services remains to be seen. "We're looking at some other European options and potentially the D-League," Harrison adds. "Maybe the D-League's a blessing for him, although he can't make any money there."
