Ex-Blackwater Guard Andrew Moonen Won't Be Charged in Death of Iraqi

?Andrew Moonen is the Seatteite and ex-Blackwater guard who killed one of the Iraqi Vice President's security guards on Christmas Eve 2006. Depending on who you asked, the shooting was either a drunken murder or self-defense. Now, the only person whose opinion really matters has weighed in and decided to split the difference.

According to the P-I, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington Jenny Durkan has decided not to indict Moonen. Despite acknowledging that Moonen was drunk at the time and that the shooting was a "tragic event," Durkan said there wasn't enough evidence to send the case to a grand jury.

The investigation into Moonen's shooting, wrote Durkan, involved a collaboration between the Army, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office and included two trips to Iraq to review evidence and visit the scene. Moonen, meanwhile, has managed to evade both criminal and civil charges, and is now working as a state prison guard in Monroe.
