Welcome to horse race journalism, folks. Last week Dino Rossi was in an unfamiliar role, that of favorite in the race to unseat Senate incumbent Patty Murray who'd previously been declared to be "in trouble" after a middling performance in the August primary. And now...well now Murray is the favorite again, of course.
A new Elway poll has Murray up 50-41 percent over Rossi, a complete reversal of the numbers the last time anyone bothered to check. She also could apparently piss off a majority of the people who haven't made up their mind yet and still win.
Still, Elway notes, if Rossi takes three-quarters of the undecideds in this poll, Murray would still lead 52-48%.
"Any way these data are sliced, victory for Dino Rossi requires that he take votes away from Murray. And you thought this campaign has been hard hitting so far," Elway writes.
Meanwhile, political writer Marc Ambinder Tweets that "Patty Murray is the only vulnerable Dem now to poll at or above 50% right now." So how "vulnerable" is she really?
