Suzan DelBene Has More Money Than Her Opponent - So Did Previous Political Losers

It's easy to overlook, but when you're asking people for money, don't forget to ask for their vote too. That's how you win.
Rep. Dave Reichert's challenger is trumpeting the fact that with seven months to go until the Congressional elections, she has a six-figure advantage over the three-term incumbent.

According to the Federal Election Commission, Suzan DelBene has raised $1.27 million compared with Reichert's $990,000. "We had another great quarter as the campaign's momentum continued to grow," she says in announcing the latest numbers.

But two years ago, another woman with an adorable, chin-length haircut had even more financial momentum. Darcy Burner raised $4.45 million to Reichert's $2.86 million in 2008. And then she lost by a 6 percent margin.

A $551,000 financial advantage didn't work for Joe Mallahan in last year's mayoral election either. The lesson here being that money does not necessarily equal votes--which is where you need momentum if you're going to win.
