This is what greeted some Anacortes residents peeking out their windows last night after an explosion rocked the Tesoro oil refinery, killing three four. The blast, which took place around 12:30 a.m., came as a result of maintenance done on the part of the refinery where crude is turned into gas.
Thus far no names have been released. But a Harborview spokesman has announced the ages of two men and two women (34 and 41 and 29 and 36, respectively) taken to its intensive care unit with major burns over much of their bodies.
The blast was felt by residents living as far away as five miles from the refinery. And, because this is what happens when something big blows up, has been described as feeling like a "sonic boom," "a jet engine," and/or a "100-mph wind."
