Rep. Geoff Simpson Tells Teabagger, "If the Shoe Fits, Wear It."

Tea Party protestors have had it up to here with this cat's defamatory language.
When you write to a politician you usually don't expect to hear back. Or, if you're lucky enough to get a response, it's often in the form of some boring boilerplate along the lines of Thanks for your interest.

Not so with Rep. Geoff Simpson.

The Kent pol doesn't just write back to those who write him. He seems to relish the opportunity to respond to his crazier, angrier constituents by telling them just how ignorant they are.

Take Ward Isom from Lake Stevens, for example.

Isom is a fan of conservative talk-show host Dori Munson. Last Monday, he and his 15-year-old daughter went to a Tea Party protest.

After the protest, Isom thought he heard Simpson call Tea Partiers "teabaggers" while the Rep was giving a speech on the House floor. As audio posted on Munson's site shows, Isom and Munson both actually misheard Simpson; he was just repeating the word his neighbor had used to describe the anti-tax activists.

Act like an idiot and Rep. Simpson will call you on it.
Using this false premise as a springboard for his outrage, Isom forged ahead nonetheless and attacked Simpson in an e-mail:
Mr. Simpson,

I recently heard your degrading slur describing people like myself that attended the Monday rally to voice my opinion regarding new taxes.I am a veteran of the U.S. Navy and I currently serve as the Historian of American Legion Post# 181 in Lake Stevens. I do not take kindly to someone in your position denigrating an entire group of citizens such as you did when you referred to everyone of those protesters (including my fifteen year old daughter) as "tea baggers". Shame on you! I want an apology and I want you to make a public apology now.

In case you haven't heard, it is the right of every American citizen to voice their dissent when they feel their representative isn't doing their job. I would like to ask how you have addressed protesters like Code Pink or Anarchist groups in the past? Have you denigrated them as well or is it only the groups that disagree with your positions that you degrade? I'll be sure to pass along your comments to all veteran groups in your district.

A VERY disappointed citizen,

Ward Isom

Lake Stevens, WA

To which Simpson responded:
Ward -

If the shoe fits, wear it. Otherwise, why assume my 90 year old war hero friend was talking about you when he used the word teabagger?

Funny as Simpson's blunt response is, it's even funnier to watch Munson and others contort themselves into a rage over what's just one big misunderstanding.

The BIAW's blog The Hammer says Simpson's e-mail shows how "low rent" and "classless" he is. Something they're no doubt familiar with, having once called Gov. Chris Gregoire a "heartless, power-hungry she-wolf who would eat her own young to get ahead."

And Munson calls "teabaggers" a degrading, dehumanizing term. Then provides a link to a definition. As if the horrors of sticking your balls in someone's face are so offensive, he might taint his blog just by describing it.
