A Facebook page becomes an online memorial for four Lakewood police officersAs was the case with previous public tragedies, mourners of the the Lakewood police officers murdered last weekend have turned to their online social networks for solace.
A Facebook page dedicated to the four slain policemen has become both digital memorial and newshub, with users arriving to express their grief, sympathy and as of this morning, satisfaction that Maurice Clemmons, the man accused of the killings, has been shot dead by police.
"may they all RIP.....glad they shot the bastard who did this," writes one user.
Most, however, generally keep to extension of their thoughts and prayers.
But the more new media savvy among them provide a running update on a Twitter feed dedicated to the police investigation into the shootings, where followers have since the beginning of the manhunt been able to track and comment on events as they occurred in real time. Call it catharsis for the digital age.
