They didn't have a hand-holding press conference or anything, but former King County Executive candidates Fred Jarrett, Larry Phillips and Ross Hunter all officially endorsed Dow Constantine against Susan Hutchison via a press release just issued by the Constantine campaign. According to the final election results, certified yesterday, those three men shared 35.16 percent of the vote. If Constantine is able to get all of their supporters, it will push him up over the 60 percent mark.
Constantine's more affectionate supporters Dave Meinert and Christine Gregoire got company from his former rivals.
Reflections on Constantine from his new allies after the jump.Fred Jarrett: "Along the campaign trail I had the opportunity to see Dow Constantine on many occasions. I came away convinced Dow offers a rare combination of experience with a commitment to changing the way King County does business. It's the combination our next County Executive needs. I am proud to endorse Dow Constantine and look forward to doing what I can to get him elected."
Ross Hunter: "I'm supporting Dow Constantine because he has the background and knowledge to effectively run the County. Dow and I have had serious discussions about the policy changes needed to put King County on a sound basis. I look forward to continuing to work on policy strategy with him. Moreover, Dow is committed to representing all of King County, not just one city or community. I will be urging my supporters and constituents to offer him their support."
Larry Phillips: "During the primary election campaign, I pledged to support Dow in the general election should he win. At my request, I met with Dow shortly after the primary to honor my pledge of support. On significant issues like environmental protection, transportation choices and civil rights, Dow has demonstrated he shares the values of the people of King County. Consequently, he has my support against Susan Hutchison who has embraced the failed policies of George Bush, Mike Huckabee and the conservative wing of the Republican Party. I look forward to making progress on the priorities King County citizens have for protecting their environment and quality of life with an experienced public servant and progressive Democrat like Dow as Executive."
That last one especially had to be a little tough. Phillips was the only person to directly challenge Ron Sims when he was still planning to run for a third term as an incumbent. Hutchison spokesperson Jordan McCarren hasn't seen the release when I called and declined to comment immediately.
