Safeco Field's Microsoft bonanza won't be the only event of playoff-caliber intensity today: It's debate day in the mayoral race! Right now, Joe Mallahan is probably reviewing his newly acquired knowledge of city issues (thanks for covering, Charla), while Mike McGinn is readying his barbs as he charges his electric bike for the Greenwood-to-Cinerama commute. Showdown begins at high noon, as all the best showdowns do. A word of warning, though: if you want to go, you'll have to pay. Entry is $25, but in that $25 defense, it does cover lunch.
In endorsement news, McGinn gets the sole nod of Greg Nickels' home turf, the 34th District Democrats (whose motto, "All The Democracy You Can Handle," badly needs an exclamation point), as Mallahan fell short in the vote for a co-endorsement last night. JoeMa has, however, been picking up some union endorsements, which surely we'll hear about today. Will McGinn have a plan for public safety? Will Mallahan have a plan for anything? Will you die if you drink at every mention of the tunnel? Answers at noon, folks.
