Sally Clark Offers Ice Cream for Your Thoughts on Housing

People looking to discuss mid- and high-rise building codes AND get free ice cream can finally kill two birds with one stone today. The City Council's Planning, Land Use, and Neighborhoods Committee will be discussing the former and giving away the latter (which, the release notes, was purchased with Sally Clark's personal funds) at a public meeting at Blanche Lavizzo Park (E. Yesler Way and 22nd--ice cream at 5:00, meeting at 5:30).

Affordable housing is among the hot topics on the agenda--specifically, they're looking at a proposal to extend the incentive zoning program--which currently exists only in the downtown commercial zone and which allows developers to build higher in exchange for contributions to an affordable housing fund--into the mid- and high-rise residential areas. Combine this with voting and today gives you a real chance to be a civic all-star, and a well-fed one.
