It sounds like something out of a Kafka book, or at least a Christopher Guest movie, but residents of the Eastside suburb of Newcastle just can't manage to fulfill their dream of scoring their own ZIP code. Instead, they share a ZIP code with Renton, who they suspect gets their postage taxes. Moreover, the shared ZIP code apparently confuses delivery people and drives up car insurance rates, as there are a lot more accidents in Renton. So, having been rejected twice previously, Newcastle once again asked USPS for a new zip. And, for the third time, they were denied. Alas, says the Post Office, little ol' Newcastle is just too little (at last estimate, its population was 9,925) to warrant a new ZIP.
