Happy Groundbreaking Anniversary, SLUT

Three years ago today, HistoryLink tells us, Mayor Greg Nickels broke ground on the South Lake Union Streetcar, or South Lake Union Trolley, or SLUT. It was a back to the future (or forward to the past) moment, as the first Downtown to SLU trolley was built in 1890.

But back to the current iteration. Since the mayor broke ground on the project, it has:

* Been completed.

* Picked up the sticky nickname SLUT, as featured on many t-shirts.

* Beaten SW's Aimee Curl in a foot race. (A victory that should carry an asterisk, as the SLUT never passed a post-race drug test.)

* Amassed a larger-than-predicted ridership.

* Had its ridership numbers challenged.

* Been granted a sibling by November's Sound Transit vote.

* Seen likely expansions from the City Council.

* Made Paul Allen breakfast.

One of those things isn't true, but the rest are. Onward, bright trolley!
