Today's SW story about the vigilante murders in Arizona focuses on Shawna Forde, the onetime Everett city council candidate, beauty school protest leader, and former Seattle prostitute - the "fat white woman" accused of masterminding the slayings of a Mexican man and his 9-year-old daughter in Arivaca to finance Forde's Minutemen group. But one of her alleged co-conspirators, a white supremacist from Wenatchee named Jason "Gunny" Bush, is now reportedly ratting out Forde and has apparently confessed to being the lead gunman in the May 30 desert shootings. As first reported by Arizona's Green Valley News & Sun, "He admitted to both murders" a Pima County investigator said. (Bush apparently talked so freely with authorities after his arrest that he has also been charged with slaying a Mexican man in Wenatchee 12 years ago). An ex-con and car thief, Bush, 34, reportedly papered Arivaca with counterfeit money orders and flashed fake military papers around town to impress the locals. But he was having a hard time keeping his stories straight. Though he told some he'd served in Vietnam, he tried to cover for the leg wound he suffered in the Arivaca shootout by claiming he'd just seen duty in Iraq. Even his "Gunny" nickname was seemingly fabricated: Forde's now defunct website had stated Bush had been a Marine gunnery sergeant who'd won the Bronze and Silver stars. But the Pentagon has no record of him ever serving.
