Nice to see some of Amazon's strong recent financial performance benefit the local community. Especially when the cause, reading, is what built Jeff Bezos' company out of his garage. Richard Hugo House today announced a $35,000 grant from Amazon, which becomes its presenting sponsor for its fall 2009 Literacy Series. The fall schedule, which extends into 2010, hasn't yet been announced. Past participants have included Aimee Bender, Rick Moody, Richard Rodriguez, and famous Kindle hater Sherman Alexie. Oh, did Hugo House neglect to mention that to Amazon? Well, maybe he won't be invited back to read.
