One of my favorite bands is the Mountain Goats, and one of my favorite Mountain Goats songs is "The Best Ever Death Metal Band out of Denton". In it, two teenage boys have their dreams of a death metal band ridiculed by adults who send one of them off to boarding school, etc. Before heading into a final chorus of "Hail Satan", the song closes with this:
When you punish a person for dreaming his dream / Don't expect him to thank or forgive you / The best ever death metal band out of Denton / Will in time both outpace and outlive you
Which brings us to Boeing, of course. In its May issue, Conde Nast Portfolio speculated that the aerospace giant might become of "the GM of the skies", particularly because of the problems associated with its new Dreamliner. Well, today the Dreamliner is in a hangar, getting ready for its big debutante party (its second--the first one didn't go so well). Conde Nast Portfolio? It's going out of business.
