City Drops $8.4 Million to Clear Hurdle for Mercer Project

The city's lawsuit with West Marine boating supply was on its way to the Supreme Court, threatening the viability of the still-not-quite-funded Mercer Corridor Project. So today the city paid $8.4 million to make the problem go away.

West Marine was claiming that the project provides insufficient public benefit--something with which Nick Licata and Mike McGinn might agree--to warrant the use of eminent domain.

And now, for good measure, a third showing of Mercer Corridor Death Star, that winter blockbuster that explores the similarities between the city's planning simulations for the project and the climactic scene of Star Wars.
