One week after a Metro driver pleaded guilty to selling cocaine from his bus, the P-I lets us know that 2008 was the most violent year in a while on Metro buses--or at least the year in which the highest number of violent incidents were reported. (550 reports (out of 118 million trips)). The biggest problem areas, Metro Deputy General Manager Jim Johnson tells the P-I, are "the Aurora corridor, the Pacific Highway corridor and the Rainier Valley."
While the article focuses on 2008's numbers, it recounts some odd episodes from 2007:
One driver describes a woman boarding the No. 174 bus in Sodo, screaming at other passengers to "wake up," then punching a sleeping man repeatedly in the face....
While more serious transgressions occurred -- including several allegations of peeping and unwanted contact -- many tend toward the strange, such as a 2007 case in which a pantsless man fought an associate.
