Tacoma's Abdul Gaddy--the all-everything point guard expected to start for the Huskies next year--will be on TV tonight at the McDonald's All-American Game. (5 PM, ESPN). Franklin High star Peyton Siva, who's headed for Louisville, will be there also. The game is notoriously defense-free, so Gaddy should have plenty of opportunities to flaunt his crazy crossover and passing skills. ESPN says to look for "showstopping" plays involving Gaddy and his former Bellarmine teammate Avery Bradley.
The Huskies' first All-American since Spencer Hawes (2006), Gaddy almost didn't come to UW. He originally committed to Arizona, then switched when Lute Olson retired. His situation is similar to that of 6'10" DeMarcus Cousins, the nation's #2 ranked prep recruit, who'll be playing tonight as well. Cousins chose Memphis over UW, among others, but Memphis coach John Calipari just skipped to Kentucky. Cousins has subsequently said that the recruiting process is once again wide open. Let's hope Gaddy can impress him tonight.
