$20,000 a Day to Be Special, and Maybe Score Seattle $30 Million

The legislative session is officially over, but unfinished business has state Dems considering a special session, which would cost roughly $20k a day. Christine Gregoire, who has to sign off on a special session, wants to limit it to state budget-related bills--one to deport undocumented immigrants who are convicted of crimes before they serve time here, one to allow judges more discretion in sentencing, and one to allow school districts to raise levies more frequently.

But legislators don't seem as eager to limit it--their lists include projects like reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and the Key Arena/Husky Stadium/low-income housing/kitchen sink bill, which could net Seattle $30 million from this guy. (Just to summarize on that one: the state wouldn't let a county continue its own tax that could bring in a windfall for the city and would cost the state nothing, so the state will now be paying to reconsider the idea.)
