Both houses of the Washington legislature saw the introduction of National Popular Vote bills today.
The bills would guarantee all of Washington's electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote, thus eliminating the distorting influence of the electoral college. (Presidents Harrison, Hayes, and Bush II all squeeked into the White House despite losing the popular vote.
Four states--Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and Hawaii--have the law on the books already. If Washington passes the bill, which makes for a hypothetical 61 electoral votes. Only 209 to go!
