Coffee Strong, a soldiers' hangout dreamed up by veterans opposed to the war and supported by Tully's chairman Tom O'Keefe, is now open for business. GI Voice's Seth Manzel, a driving force behind the project, says the coffee house had a quiet opening last month. Located near the gates of Fort Lewis, it is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and has a hip hop show scheduled for this Friday. "A fair number of soldiers have been coming through," Manzel says, including a sergeant interested in leaving the Army. "We hooked him up with the GI Rights Hotline [an organization that offers such soldiers information about their options]."
