Lynden Woman Gets One of Bush's 19 Pardons

A resident of Lynden, the tiny conservative town on the Canadian border (near Bellingham) that still essentially shuts down on Sundays, has received one of President Bush's 19 pardons. According to several reports, Marie Elena Eppens was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in 1992 in Nebraska. She received a sentence of
"four years of probation conditioned on 60 days of confinement in a jail-type institution on work release, four months of home detention and performance of 200 hours of community service." Left a message at Ms. Eppens' home, and will report back if we hear back.
