Obama at KeyArena: "I Will End This War in 2009"

Obama discussed his Iraq policy on July 3.

Michelle Obama will appear at Qwest Field's WaMu Theater at Noon on Thursday for a "campaign celebration honoring Gov. Chris Gregoire."

There has been much talk about Sen. Barack Obama's pair of press conferences earlier this month in which he discussed refining his Iraq policy, and whether or not he'd wiggle on his promise to withdraw troops within 16 months of taking office, or if he ever actually promised that timetable or if it was a goal.

Aimee Curl and I attended three Obama events in town between June 2007 and February 2008. We recorded all three speeches. This morning I skimmed them, and edited down a few highlights, specifically what he said about the war in Iraq, so you can decide for yourself if Obama's changed his tune on Iraq. Yes, these are edited samples from his speeches. You can hear them all in their entirety here, here, and here.

"I will end this war in 2009. And I will bring our troops home."

"As president, I will end this war and we will bring our troops home within 16 months."

On ending the war in Iraq: "But I will tell you this, Seattle. If congress doesn't do it before George Bush is out of office, than I will do it when I am in office. You can take that to the bank."
