The King County and Seattle City Councils held a joint session to discuss how to deal with the eventual closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. More trolleys and possible light rail extension to West Seattle were discussed. Good. An expanded water taxi only garnered "brief mention," according to the West Seattle Blog. Not good. Nothing less than a legitimate foot ferry running from Alki to downtown every 15 minutes will suffice for those of us who stand to get the hard shaft. Seeing as West Seattleite/County Councilman Dow Constantine is running herd over the ferry component, we're cautiously optimistic. But it can't be a half step where a boat's added to the rinky-dink Argosy shuttles -- this needs to be a full bore effort, replete with Park & Ride and bus service beyond the Junctions, ala Vlad Oustimovich's plan.
