I'm sure many of you are still hopped up on Obama goofballs after this weekend. And rightly so...it was one hell of a lovefest up here in the Northwest corner. I was out on Saturday night with two sets of friends at two different times. Both sets threw their support to Barack Obama earlier that day. When discussing the various reasons why they loved the guy so much, they said the following:
"He's pretty inspirational."
"I just think if he got elected, it would be really inspirational."
"I dunno, I feel pretty inspired by him."
To which I felt like saying (cantankerous prick that I am): Inspired to do what?
Here's the definition of "inspire", via Encarta: to stimulate somebody to do something.
Since Obama's ability to "inspire" has been a reason many have been swayed to support him over his opponent, Hillary Clinton (something George Packer wrote about exquisitely in the New Yorker), I would like to ask you all:
What has he inspired you to do, besides throw a vote his way?
Volunteer more often? Donate money to the poor? Clean-up nearby rivers? Eat organic food?
Seriously, I wanna know. Or does it just feel cool to equate a presidential candidate with a Hallmark greeting card?
