First of all, here's what WSF is saying on their web site:
"Brem 6:20am; Sea 7:35am; Brem 9:00am are cancelled due to Yakima wind damage."
Well, guess what, that's not exactly the whole story. You see, I was on the 12:50 a.m. run from Seattle to Bremerton when this "wind damage" occurred.
The Yakima ferry RAMMED into one of the 'dolphins' as a WSF crew member told me. You and I know them as pileons. We were almost to the dock, I had just woken up (this is approximately 1:45 a.m., and I was returning from Hillary's speech), and things got all Titanic.
We smashed into this 'dolphin,' things started shaking, and the dude to my left (there were only 20ish of us on board) said, "Oh, fuck, he didn't get in."
We then started drifting aimlessly, and in the REVERSE DIRECTION. This lasted for about 10 minutes. A couple crew members ran around, the few passengers stayed quiet, and we didn't hear anything until a warbled message said something about "...we'll get you unloaded as soon as possible." This was followed a few minutes later by a "thanks for your patience message."
More on this to come.
I'm sorry I didn't report this at 2:30 a.m., when I got home. But, my Internet was down. And, hey, couldn't do it from the boat, 'cause the Yakima still doesn't have Wi-Fi.
