Fact Checking Clinton, Obama's Remarks on Exxon Mobil

Here's what Sen. Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Barack Obama said about Exxon Mobil's earnings while they were visiting Seattle.

Sen. Clinton said this, Thursday night at Pier 30:

" ... to companies like Exxon Mobil that made $40 billion in profits last quarter. They do not need your money to be successful."

Sen. Obama said this today at KeyArena:

"Exxon Mobil made $11 billion last quarter. They don't want to give up their profits easily."

So, who was right? It appears the winner here is Sen. Obama.

Perhaps Sen. Clinton's been reading too much of the NY Times. Or, maybe, not enough.

"A front-page Inside summary on Saturday about Exxon Mobil’s record $40.6 billion in net income misstated, in some editions, the period that the profit covered. It was for the year, not for the quarter."
