Why can't there be a Strippergate every week? Seattle politics is, in general, far too clean to make for interesting headlines. We in the media crave those stories of bribery, graft, and corruption, but too rarely is that craving met. Sure, the mayor's son may get in trouble, but what about the mayor himself? So it was with great envy we read the Wonkette and Detroit Free Pressaccount of a text-messaging scandal in Detroit--a city so low tech they still make cars there! (And not even Priuses.) Mayor busted for steamy text messages! Why can't that story be ours? Here in tech-loving Seattle, our elected officials are perhaps too in love with their PDAs instead of using them as an instrument of love. We should be way ahead of Detroit in that department.
And another thing, Greg Nickels. Check out the sartorial style of Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick:
Even if your texting and email must remain chaste, respectable, and dull (like everything else about City Hall, sigh), wearing plaid pants like that--to say nothing of the arms on that guy!--would earn you a whole new level of respect from the city council. And the media.
