The Urban Development and Planning Committee met this week for the next go-round on the comprehensive plan amendments and the council members present sided 3-2 with keeping the annexation of North Highline (which includes White Center) on the table.
The committee and full council still have to take an official vote on the issue, but it looks like Mayor Greg Nickels' bid for the unincorporated area is alive, for now. Even those game to keep annexation on the table have indicated they're losing patience-- that the mayor's got to make headway getting the cash from Olympia to pay for it next session or next time the comp plan comes up they may yank it.
Committee chairman Peter Steinbrueck and council member Tom Rasmussen were the two no votes. This is the second year Steinbrueck has attempted to derail annexation through the comp plan amendment process. Voting yes were council members Sally Clark, Richard Conlin and Jean Godden. The final committee vote will take place either Dec. 6 or Dec. 12, with the full council scheduled to weigh in Dec. 17.
