Did anybody catch the George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic concert at the Showbox in March? I only ask because I just found out that somebody fell through the fucking ceiling onto the dance floor while the show was going on.
I hadn’t heard about this, so I called the free-faller, Daniel Myers, who has a court hearing next Tuesday for the estimated $1,524 damage he caused to Showbox’s ceiling. Myer’s father said he was incommunicado in the central-Oregon mountains. Showbox’s talent booker, Chad Queirolo, hung up on me when asked about the incident. But here’s what happened, according to a report filed by SPD detective J. Crumb:
Myers, who IDed himself to police as a 19-year-old student at Western Washington University, was turned down at the door after trying to use his brother’s expired ID card. But like a true fan, he didn’t give up: “already intoxicated,” states Crumb, Myers “climbed a ladder on the back of the building and got up onto the roof.” From there, he weaseled his way into the Showbox’s ventilation system. Things were going swimmingly until he stepped upon a ceiling grate that gave way. Myers and associated debris fell 15 to 20 feet into the crowd below, narrowly missing a couple of people standing nearby. He got up to make a run for it but was caught by a security guard. Then he went to the hospital.
There is surveillance footage. I’ll post when I get it.
