The Seattle Police Department is investigating a complaint of sexual offense at Lakeside School, the prestigious private institution in North Seattle that is the alma mater of Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The complaint was filed on January 31st, according to department spokesperson Sean Whitcomb. Because it is an ongoing investigation, police will not release details of the case or names of those involved. The investigation follows the sudden departure of a Latin teacher at the "Upper School." (Lakeside, with students in grades 5 through 12, is divided into Upper and Middle Schools.)
In late February, parents received a letter from the school informing them that the teacher had resigned over midwinter break for "personal reasons." No further information was given, and school spokesperson Maia Mulligan declines comment on both the teacher's departure and the police investigation. The teacher, reached by phone, also declines comment on both matters.
