Just read the Associated Press' account of Maria Cantwell cajoling the Senate into funding projects sought by corporate clients of her former campaign manager and onetime boss, Ron Dotzauer (who still owes Cantwell money from a years-old personal loan). I'm of two minds on this. Does it look bad for Cantwell and Dotzauer? Sure. Does it have legs? Probably not. I mean, it's not like the Senator is earmarking taxpayer cash for a new equestrian course and blue spruce trees on Dotzauer's ranch—she's funding a hydroelectric dam and research on military-related sickness. Either way, the real winner here is Republican opponent Mike McGavick, whose drunk oil scandals probably fade to background music right about now.
