Despite a lot of impassioned testimony from small business owners and civil drinking rights watchdogs, the State Liquor Control Board has gone ahead and unanimously approved the city's desire to ban like 30 brands of potent beer and wine from sale at package stores in the city's central core (the ban doesn't go into effect until November). Times columnist Danny Westneat does a pretty canny job of pointing out the sheer randomness of the process the city used to arrive at its banned brand list here. Laughing Clown Malt Liquor, we hardly knew ye.
