The Globes

If anyone's going to restore Seattle's reputation as the country's most notable rock city, it's the Globes. That's because the Spokane quartet offers what, in this age of hip irony, has become a rarity: gimmick-less guitar rock. This April, the Globes released Future Self, their debut full-length on Barsuk Records, a serious triumph of blistering guitar riffs, smooth and subtle vocals, and one of the sharpest, most flawless rhythm sections around. The amount of pretension involved is zero—this is just pure talent, no more and no less. And the amount of burning vision that the Globes were able to bring to their very first record make you wonder where they'll go next in what's sure to be a lengthy career. ERIN K.
