Best Local Boy Made Good

Mateo Messina

You may not have heard of award-winning composer Mateo Messina, but you've almost certainly heard his music. Now based in Los Angeles, the Seattle native has contributed to the scores of movies like Juno (for which he won a Grammy), Thank You for Smoking, and others. For the past 13 years, Messina has also composed and conducted orchestral music for concerts on behalf of The Symphony Guild, the proceeds of which fund uncompensated care at Seattle Children's Hospital. Of late, his stunning symphonies have packed Benaroya Hall and treated guests to performances by Ann and Nancy Wilson, Alice in Chains, American Idol's Blake Lewis, and others, while raising close to $1 million and bringing greater awareness to the needs of afflicted children.
