Best Irish Pub

A Terrible Beauty

You need only to hear the owners' names—husband/wife team Paddy and Jenna Shannon Garvey O'Brien—to know that A Terrible Beauty is a die-hard Irish pub. The front entrance is inscribed with poetry by Yeats, the clocks show the time in both Seattle and Belfast, and on many nights, a live band plays traditional Irish music. Well worth a drive to Renton (or West Seattle), the beloved establishment features 30 imported and local beers on tap, tasty pub fare, and even a mini-market for customers looking to buy rye bread or homemade sausage rolls. And, as if A Terrible Beauty's love for all things Irish weren't obvious enough, they even serve their clams steamed in Guinness. Sláinte! ERIKA HOBART 201 Williams Ave., Renton, 425-227-3396; 4752 California Ave. S.W., 453-4066.
